Boy Scout Troop 358

TRANSITIONING TO BOY SCOUTS

Encourage your Scout to join a Boy Scout Troop! After four to five years of Cub Scouts, your Scout may feel that he has experienced all there is in scouting. But Boy Scouts is a very different program chock full of new experiences. Encourage him to try it for a year to observe and experience the differences for himself.

The fifth grade year is the time to be visiting Scout troops, asking questions, thinking about what you are looking for in a Scout troop, and deciding which one to join.

Choosing the right troop for you is an individual decision as Troops, like boys, vary somewhat in their focus and makeup. Members of a single den may end up Crossing Over to two or even three different troops.

The leaders of Troop 538 would encourage you to visit several troops to learn about the unique qualities of each. Select a troop that fits the needs of your family. Below you will find Troop 538 answers to some very important questions; we encourage you to ask the same questions of other troops. Completing a visitation form would help us to arrange for a visit but you are welcome any time.

Your fifth grade Webelos Scout is able to join as soon as they have finished the Arrow of Light requirements. Any non-cub can join a boy scout troop when he reaches 11 years old or completes 5th grade, whichever is sooner.

If you have more general questions about Troop 538, our structure, or how we do things, please look at our Q&A Section. If you have more questions about Boy Scouts in general, please visit the All About Scouts Section.
